C-N's men ranked in USTFCCCA top-25

NEW ORLEANS—The Carson-Newman men's outdoor track and field team is ranked for the first time in school history as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association tabbed the Eagles as the No. 22 best team in Division II in the week two polls.

Carson-Newman, who was not ranked a week ago, jumped into the top-25 after a solid opening week to the outdoor season at the Power Sox Invitational on March 19.

The Eagles collected solid outings from Kevin Snead (Richmond, Va.) and Tanner Stepp (Jefferson City, Tenn.) as the duo provisionally qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.

Snead's provisionally mark came in the men's 100 meter dash as the junior completed a first-place time of 10.56 seconds. The sprinter also notched a first-place time in the men's 200 meter dash after finishing the race with a time of 21.51 seconds which broke a 40-year Carson-Newman program record in the event.

Stepp's provisionally qualification came in the men's high jump where the sophomore picked up a first-place leap of 2.11 meters in his first outdoor meet of the season.

Other notable first-place showings for Carson-Newman last weekend at the Power Sox Invitational included T.J. Davis (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Lachlan Dickie (Knoxville, Tenn.).  Davis completed the men's long jump with a 6.83m mark and Dickie wrapped up the men's 5000m run with a 15:38.25 time.

Carson-Newman will be at it again this weekend as the bulk of the squad will head to the Shorter Invite while Needs will also send the team's pole vaulters to the Winthrop Adidas Invitational.
