SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Carson-Newman cross country team opened
the 2009 season on Saturday by competing in the 26th annual Eye
Opener Invitational at Milliken Research Park in Spartanburg, South
Carolina.
The Lady Eagles placed fifth out of the 17 teams competing.
Freshman Brooke Earhart (Dickson, Tenn.) had a stellar debut,
finishing fourth individually with a time of 19:32 in the 5K event.
She shaved 20 seconds off her high school personal best.
The Eagles placed 10th as a team, led by the 14th-place finish of
Jonathan Madden (Franklin, Tenn.). The junior preseason All-SAC
selection turned in a time of 28:01 in the 8K race.
C-N's next meet is on Sept. 18 as it will compete in the
Mountaineer Open in Boone, N.C.
