Lady Eagles finish fourth among D-IIs at Eye Opener on Friday evening

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles finished 11th overall and fourth among D-II teams at the Eye Opener Invitational, held Friday evening in Spartanburg, S.C.

Junior Katie Hayes (Jackson, Tenn.) finished 38th overall with a time of 20:23 to lead C-N.

The Lady Eagles finished fourth among 10 D-II teams in the field, and also beat D-I Presbyterian in the race. Among the D-II teams they beat, were three SAC teams, including Brevard, Catawba, and Mars Hill.

Newcomer Hannah Reese (Belhaven, Miss.) trailed Hayes across the starting line by three seconds to finish 42nd overall.

Junior newcomer Samantha McConeghey (Johnston, Iowa) closed as the third Lady Eagle and 78th overall with a time of 21:55.

Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference selection Brooke Earhart (Dickson, Tenn.) finish fourth for C-N and 81st overall, while Stephanie Savino (Southhold, N.Y.) finished 83rd, two seconds behind Earhart.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Sept. 17 in the Carson-Newman Challenge at Panther Creek State Park in Morristown, Tenn. The race begins at 9 a.m.
