SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles finished 11^th overall and fourth among D-II teams at the Eye Opener Invitational, held Friday evening in Spartanburg, S.C.

Junior Katie Hayes (Jackson, Tenn.) finished 38^th overall with a time of 20:23 to lead C-N.

The Lady Eagles finished fourth among 10 D-II teams in the field, and also beat D-I Presbyterian in the race. Among the D-II teams they beat, were three SAC teams, including Brevard, Catawba, and Mars Hill.

Newcomer Hannah Reese (Belhaven, Miss.) trailed Hayes across the starting line by three seconds to finish 42^nd overall.

Junior newcomer Samantha McConeghey (Johnston, Iowa) closed as the third Lady Eagle and 78^th overall with a time of 21:55.

Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference selection Brooke Earhart (Dickson, Tenn.) finish fourth for C-N and 81^st overall, while Stephanie Savino (Southhold, N.Y.) finished 83^rd, two seconds behind Earhart.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Sept. 17 in the Carson-Newman Challenge at Panther Creek State Park in Morristown, Tenn. The race begins at 9 a.m.
