Bookbinder Joins Eagles Coaching Staff

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Carson-Newman football coach Ken Sparks announced the addition of Josh Bookbinder to the Eagles' coaching staff on Thursday.

Bookbinder, who spent last season as Assistant Director of Football Operations and Defensive Quality Control at the University of Richmond, will be coaching linebackers at C-N.

"He's got that great heritage," Sparks said. "Anytime you are the grandson of (former Baylor coach) and (AFCA executive director) Grant Teaff, you've got something going for you. He's a hard worker and he's got a great future in this game. We are glad he is stopping over with us for a while."

Bookbinder, a 2009 graduate of Baylor, worked with the Bears' linebackers as an undergraduate assistant from 2007-08.

Bookbinder then moved on to Richmond, where he helped lead the Spiders to an 11-2 record in 2009, including a Colonial Athletic Association title and a berth in the national quarterfinals. The San Antonio, Texas, native worked with the Richmond secondary under Spiders defensive coordinator Vic Shealy, who is the son of former C-N head coach Dal Shealy.

Bookbinder joins an Eagles program that went 11-3 in 2009. C-N won its 21st South Atlantic Conference title and advanced to the Division II national semifinals.
