Year: Fifth Year

Johnson Jamison is in his fifth year as an assistant coach for the Carson-Newman football program. He spent his first year as a graduate assistant and his second as a defensive quality control coach before being promoted to defensive line coach.

Jamison oversaw a banner year for Carson-Newman's defensive line in 2023.  The Eagles ranked 10th nationally in sacks per game with 3.27.  The Eagles 37 sacks were the ninth-highest total in school history, and the most in 16 years.  He oversaw the development of defensive end Jacorey Long into an All-SAC player. Long is the first Carson-Newman defensive lineman with a 50-tackle campaign since Montel Presley's All-SAC season in 2019.  Long, Presley and Javaris Neal have the only 50-tackle years by defensive lineman for the football program in the last decade.  Long finished the season with 52 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks.  He also forced four fumbles, sixth most nationally and the third-most for a single-season in school history.  His 8.0 sacks are tied for the 14th-most in a single season in school history.

Jamison coached his first All-Conference player in 2022 in SAC Defensive Freshman of the Year Frank Lee. Trayzel Jureidini-Wyche earned second-team All-League honors under Jamison's tutelage as well.

Lee had 39 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks.  Lee also registered a team-high four quarterback hurries and had eight pass breakups leaping at the line.  The freshman tallied multiple tackles for loss in three games, topping out at 4.5 against Erskine – the seventh-most in a game in school history.  He garnered TSWA State Defensive Player of the Week honors following that game.  He also notched a sack and a pass break up against the Fleet.

Jamison also coached Nick Owens and AJ Hunter, who garnered CSC Academic All-District honors in 2022.

Jamison returned to his alma mater after a stint as an assistant coach at Jefferson County High School.

Jamison made 32 tackles in his two-year career as a member of Carson-Newman's defensive line.  He was a part of the 2012 C-N football team that made an appearance in the regional finals before losing to Valdosta State.

As a player, his top game came in 2014 as a senior in the Eagles' opener against Edinboro.  He registered five tackles with a sack and two tackles for loss.

Jamison is married to the former Shannon Trentham, daughter of Carson-Newman Biology profressor and Faculty Athletics Representative Bob Trentham. The couple has two children, Thompson and Rhodes.
