Full At-Large Team Release

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Carson-Newman's Kevin Mendes (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's At-Large Team on Thursday.

Mendes is the first C-N men's tennis player this decade to receive the distinction from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Award winners are recognized by CoSIDA as the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom. He is one of the 11 recipients from the district made up of student-athletes from Conference Carolinas, Peach Belt and the South Atlantic Conference.

Mendes, with a standout 3-82 GPA, graduated from C-N earlier in May with a degree in biochemistry. He has previously been named a three-time ITA Scholar Athlete and Eagle Scholar. He was also the recipient of the East Tennessee Section of the American Chemical Society Award, given to a graduating chemistry major, and the Bahner Grant, given by the Carson-Newman Chemistry Department to do a research project on-campus.

In his senior campaign, Mendes notched a 4-7 single record, playing between the fourth, fifth and sixth seeds. He played at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions with a 3-10 record. Most of his matches were played at the top doubles position alongside Rodolfo Schwarz as the duo went 2-7. He ended his career just one-win shy of tying for the most career singles wins this decade with a 30-31 record.

With this accolade, Mendes now advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with Google Cloud Academic All-America® teams announced in June.
