Lady Eagles back in regional rankings at #10

INDIANAPOLIS – In the final batch of regional rankings released by the NCAA Wednesday afternoon, Carson-Newman was slotted in 10th after being ninth two weeks ago.

Conferences are in the midst of the league tournaments with automatic bids to be handed out this weekend. Teams will officially learn their spots Sunday night with the selection show on NCAA.com beginning at 10 p.m.

The selection committee uses these rankings as a guideline to make up the NCAA Tournament field. The top eight teams in the region make the NCAA Tournament with three automatic bids going to the winners of the conference tournaments from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peachbelt Conference.

Among 316 Division II programs, the Lady Eagles have played the 13th most challenging docket on the year with the winning percentage of previous foes at .597. That is the hardest schedule to date of any team in the top 10, Wingate has the next closest at 40th facing teams with a .564 winning percentage.

The Lady Eagles are one of four teams in the SAC to be ranked in the top 10 as Lincoln Memorial has dipped to third, Wingate is sixth and Anderson sits in seventh.

The Peachbelt is represented by the top two clubs with Columbus State and Clayton State on top and Lander slides into the fifth slot. Lander hosts Clayton State on Saturday and Columbus State faces Francis Marion.

Conference Carolinas is led by Limestone in the No. 4 position as the Saints play Barton Thursday night. King is eighth playing the No. 9 team Mount Olive in Gaffney, S.C. Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

Carson-Newman is in action tonight against Newberry as the No. 4 seed in the SAC Women's Basketball Championships. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. with coverage starting at 5:45 p.m. on the Eagle Sports Network.
