2022-23 (Sophomore): Lauded as an Academic All-District selection after starting all 29 games posting 12.5 points per game, 6.1 rebounds adding 88 assists, 53 assists and 18 blocks... Ended the year ranked 35th nationally making 86.7 percent of her foul shots... Ranked eighth in the SAC with 3.1 assists per game, ninth with 53 made three-pointers and ninth with 1.79 steals per game... Scored in double figures 19 times tallying three double-doubles... Poured in 21 points, the first 20-point night of her career making six of 10 from the floor with nine rebounds, four steals and three assists in a comeback win at USC Aiken on Nov. 12... Tallied the first double-double of her career with 13 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Clayton State on Nov. 18... Recorded the second double-double in three games piling up 15 points, 11 rebounds and six assists at Wayne State on Nov. 22... Helped C-N beat No. 8 North Georgia on Dec. 3 with 16 points, six assists, five boards and two blocks... Made the first 19 foul shots of the year before missing one in game eight against eighth-ranked North Georgia on Dec. 3.... Filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and six assists in a win at UVA Wise on Jan. 25... Tallied a new career-high 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals at No. 23 Wingate on Feb. 18... Racked up 22 points, eight rebounds and three streals in a victory over Lenoir-Rhyne on Feb. 20.
2021-22 (Freshman): Penland became the seventh player coached by Mike Mincey to be named to the league's all-freshman team joining Braelyn Wykle on the active roster. Posting 10 points per game, only Mars Hill's Maddie Gillie scored more amongst freshman... Averaged 23 minutes per game seeing action in all 33 contests with 19 starts scoring in double figures 15 times leading the team three times... Opened her career with back-to-back double-digit scoring nights scoring 11 versus No. 3 Lander and 16 against USC Aiken chipping in seven boards against the Pacers... In the first SAC game of her career, Penland buried five triples scoring 16 points and brought in six rebounds at Tusculum on Nov. 17... In 32 minutes in a win at UVA Wise on Dec. 8, Penland scored 17 points, pulled down six caroms and had four assists... Snatched 12 rebounds against Mars Hill on Dec. 15 adding a season-high four blocks... Led the team in scoring with 19 points adding three assists and three steals in a comeback win at Anderson on Jan. 8... Buried a pair of foul shots with 0.3 seconds to play to tie the game in an 83-78 overtime win at No. 21 Catawba on Jan. 12, 2022... HIGH SCHOOL: Penland scored 1,448 points with 380 rebounds, 258 assists and 256 steals through three seasons at Northview Academy. A member of the 2019-20 TSWA All-State team, she became the school's all-time leading scorer as a junior earning three all-district distinctions and two district MVP honors. The Cougars have won three regular-season titles, two district championships and the 2018-19 region title.
PERSONAL: Her father, Matt, played quarterback at Carson-Newman from 1993-96. He started for two South Atlantic Conference Championship units in 1995 and 1996 winning the conference's Offensive Player of the Year honors in 1995. He guided the Eagles to the 1996 National Championship game and has his name littered throughout the C-N record books.
