News mentions

An own goal off the boot of a Carson-Newman player proved to be the difference-maker in a quarterfinals match of the SAC tournament as the Queens Royals defeated the Eagles by a final of 2-1 at McCown Field Saturday night.

Junior forward Emilee Futrell (Wilson, N.C.)’s steal and score in the 95th minute lifted the Carson-Newman Eagles past the rival Tusculum Pioneers by a 3-2 final Wednesday evening at Pioneer Field.

A penalty-kick goal from senior midfielder Lara Hallgrimsdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) in the 64th minute would serve as the difference-maker for the Eagles in a 2-1 victory Wednesday evening against Limestone.

MARS HILL, N.C. – Junior forward Emilee Futrell (Wilson, N.C.) scored her second brace on the season in less than a minute of play to seal a midweek SAC contest against Mars Hill by a 3-0 final Wednesday.

Lira Mathes’ first career goal in the 84th minute proved to be the difference as the Carson-Newman Eagles defeated the No. 6 Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters at McCown Field Wednesday evening.

Freshman Makayla Garner (Fort Mill, S.C.) scored a brace as the No. 21 Carson-Newman Eagles defeated the Young Harris Mountain Lions on Sunday afternoon at McCown Field.

When the No. 21 Carson-Newman Eagles take the field in Louisville, Ky. to face the Bellarmine Knights, the starting group of 11 will be a slight mystery.

Senior midfielder Lara Hallgrimsdottir leads a midfield unit that coach Simon Duffy described as an “exciting group” heading into the 2019 campaign. Hallgrimsdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) earned a preseason All-Conference Second-Team nod after racking up 1126 minutes across 18 contests for the Eagles. She scored one goal and four assists in her junior season while also serving as a corner specialist for C-N, crossing the ball into the box 36 times.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – After a strong performance in the 2018 season coupled with a trip to the NCAA Southeast Regionals, Carson-Newman has been ranked second in the preseason polls along with four Eagles named to preseason All-Conference teams.
