Lady Eagles blast four home runs in sweep of Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles swept a pair of non-conference softball games in convincing fashion over Pfeiffer University 10-2 and 12-2 on Sunday afternoon at Jack Ingram Field.

C-N improves to 13-5 overall while the Lady Falcons drop to 3-9.

Carson-Newman combined for 26 hits, 13 in each game, and four home runs in the two one-sided wins.

In the opener, Pfeiffer struck in the first on an Ashlee Ellen (Jacksonville, FL) single up the middle that plated Celia Dew (Sanford, NC).

Carson-Newman would put two up in the fourth on a Bethany Davis (Nicholasville, KY) two-run single while adding a Bri Shoemake (Ooltewah, TN) sac-fly in the fifth and a solo homerun by Davis in the sixth to make it a 4-1 contest.

Pfeiffer would add one in their sixth on a Kirsten Patterson (Anthem, AZ) RBI single but the Eagles would respond with six runs in the seventh, using another long ball by Davis, to score the 10-2 win. Davis would finish game one 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored.  Dew, Ellen and Patterson had the only three hits for the Lady Falcons.

Davis had three hits and five RBIs to lead C-N in the opener. Jessica Morgan, Shelby Robertson, and Shoemake all had two hits as the top three batters in the C-N lineup combined to go 6-for-10.

Game two saw Carson-Newman take control quickly with two in the first on a Mary Shealy (Clinton, SC) two-run blast to center before posting five hits in a six-run second taking an 8-0 lead.

Pfeiffer would score their two in the third on a Dew triple to right-center and a Hannah Jackson (Greensboro, NC) sacrifice fly. Using four more runs in the sixth, the Eagles were able to force the eight-run rule on the Lady Falcons ending the six-inning contest 12-2.

Shoemake had three hits to lead C-N's 13 hit barrage. For the day, she was 5-for-8 with four RBIs.

Shealy went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and Caitlyn Lance added two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for C-N.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Friday at the Mid-South Tournament when it face North Georgia and Flagler in Spartanburg, S.C.
