Eagles, Lady Eagles both take seventh at Citadel Invite

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Carson-Newman Cross Country team made a strong showing in the Citadel Invitational Saturday, facing off against a packed field of five Division I teams and six Division II squads. Both C-N squads, men and women, took seventh place overall.

The women finished in second place in the Division II bracket with a team time of 1:48:13.80. The men took fourth with a time of 2:37:13.78.

On the women's side junior Hannah Reese (Brandon, Miss.) had the fastest time for the Lady Eagles, finishing in third place with a time of 20:58.66. Junior Brooke Earhart (Dickson, Tenn.) was seventh with a time of 21:40.04.  Sophomore Stephanie Savino (Southold, N.Y.) rounded out the Top 10 with a time of 21:46. 12. Junior Meredith Nix (Walhalla, S.C.) was 12th at 21:51.65, sophomore Amanda Bowman (Greeneville, Tenn.) was 14th at 21:57.33 and junior Samantha McConeghey (Johnston, Iowa) was 15th at 21:57.79.

Lenoir-Rhyne senior Kate Griewisch took first place in Division II and second place overall with a time of 18:25.36. College of Charleston's Dena O'Brien had the fastest time with 18:13.99.

For the men, it was junior Angel Soriano (Weatherford, Texas) who once again led the way for the Eagles. Soriano's time of 28:20.51 was good enough for third place in Division II. Freshman Luke Hall's (Seymour, Tenn.) time of 31:20.29 landed him in 17th place. Freshman Matt Mifflin (Crossville, Tenn.) filled out the Top 20 with a time of 31:39.23. Sophomore Stephen Patton (Ooltewah, Tenn.) was 24th at 32:21.42.

 Lenoir-Rhyne's Jakob Maidens took first place in Division II with a time of 28:09.71. Rueben Isreal-McBee from Savannah State won the men's meet with a time of 27.08.21.

The Carson-Newman Cross Country team will next compete in the Maryville Invitational in Maryville, Tenn. on Oct. 1.
