Reese, Lady Eagles win Maryville College Invitational

MARYVILLE, Tenn. –Carson-Newman junior Hannah Reese won with a time of 25:47 and three Lady Eagles finished in the top four as Carson-Newman won the Maryville Women's Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning in Maryville, Tenn.

Reese finished 43 seconds ahead of the rest of the field to pick up her first career win as a Lady Eagle. She led a parade of eight Lady Eagles in the top 12.

The Lady Eagles beat Covenant College for the team title. Maryville College took third, and Tusculum College fourth.

Junior Meredith Nix took third with a time of 26:49, 1:02 behind Reese. Junior Brooke Earhart (26:56) finished fourth, sophomore Amanda Bowman (27:33) finished seventh, sophomore Stephanie Savino (27:47) took eighth, junior Samantha McConeghey (28:35) took ninth, and senior Lauren Henry (28:45) took 10th to round out C-N's top 10 finishers.  

Freshman Megan Farjellah (29:13) finished 12th and junior Amy Powell finished 32nd for the Lady Eagles.

The Eagles took second overall with two top 10 finishers.

Junior Angel Soriano finished second overall with a time of 28:14, 27 seconds off the pace to lead C-N. Freshman Luke Hall finished seventh at 29:15 to join Soriano in the top 10.

The Eagles finished second behind Covenant College. Maryville College finished third and Tusculum College fourth.

Freshman Matt Mifflin finished 12th for the Eagles with a time of 30:24, while sophomore Stephen Patton took 22nd, and freshman Mark Edwards 24th.

Both Carson-Newman teams will run again at the Upstate Invitational on Oct. 15 in Spartanburg, S.C.
