Former Eagle Steve Cishek called up by Marlins

MIAMI – Former Carson-Newman standout Steve Cishek (Falmouth, Mass.) has been called up again by the Florida Marlins.

Cishek joined the big league club on Tuesday after making 15 appearances in triple-A New Orleans this season.

Cishek, who was called up earlier in the season by Florida but didn't pitch, has appeared in 15 games for New Orleans. The right-hander is 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA, striking out 19 and walking 12 in 23 innings.

The Marlins are in the midst of a west coast swing. The close out a three-game set with the San Francisco Giants on Thursday, before opening a three-game series in Loa Angeles against the Dodgers on Friday.

Last season, Cishek became the first Eagle to reach the majors since Clyde Wright. He was called up as part of the 40-man roster last September.
