JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The Blue Man Group exploded for 13 runs on 13 hits in game four of the World Series Tuesday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex to set up a decisive game five Wednesday afternoon.
It was the Orange team who took an early lead by way of an Austin Kearney RBI single in the first inning. Catcher Greg Jones followed Kearney's single with an RBI double. Later in the inning a fielding error on a ball hit by Jimmy Rice would extend the Orange squad's lead to three after a half a frame.
The Blue Team would answer in the second inning. A leadoff single by Brandon Roberts was followed by a double off of the bat of Brendan Campbell. Catcher Zach Gentry delivered a single up the middle to plate Roberts and Campbell to cut the deficit to one.
After a line drive triple in the top of the third by Paul Kirby, hot-hitting Austin Kearney stepped up to the plate again and proceeded to lace another RBI single to give the Orange team a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom half of the third, the Blue Group would strike back. Ian Pung led the inning off with a walk, and he would score by way of a double from Trevor Lee. Later in the inning, Roberts delivered a single up the middle to score Lee and tie the game at four.
Blue would take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth. After a leadoff walk to Jordan Hinshaw, Malik Kyle laid down a sacrifice bunt to move him to second. After a walk to pinch-hitter Ryan Addington and a strikeout, Trevor Lee was up with two on and two out. Lee delivered his second double of the contest, this one down the rightfield line and plated two runs. Hunter Wood would follow with an RBI double of his own, this one down the leftfield line. Roberts topped off a trio of two-out hits with a single of his own to score Wood and give the Blue Men Group an 8-4 advantage.
In the fifth, Trevor Lee and the Blue Squad struck again. Lee earned his third hit and fourth RBI on a single, and Roberts' fourth hit of the day was a Grand Slam sent over the leftfield fence to put the Blue team up 13-4.
The Orange team would muster across two runs in the seventh by way of a home run by Cade Snapp, his third of the series, and an RBI triple from Mark Treadway.
Hunter Wood, Phil Pardue, and Ryan Victory were the pitchers who pieced the Seven Inning game together for the Blue team, with Phil Pardue earning the win.
Roberts drove in six runs on the day, and Lee added four for the Blue Team.
Austin Kearney, Paul Kirby and Cade Snapp had two hits a piece for the Orange Team.
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow afternoon and a champion will be crowned. An all-inclusive dinner at Gondolier, a weekend of treacherous fieldwork, a T-Shirt and most importantly pride, are all on the line. The Orange team leads the total runs battle by two. It will be a rematch of game one as Vince Apicella goes up against Austin Ray. Apicella went six hitless innings in game one to garner the win for the Orange team. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
