Coleman’s banner day nets TSWA defensive player of the week honor

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman linebacker Jaycob Coleman (Norton, Va.) has earned Tennessee Sports Writers' Association defensive player of the week honors following his career high 17-tackle performance in the Eagles' 45-17 win over Tusculum on homecoming.

The 17 stops best Coleman's previous career high of 12 set earlier this season at Colorado School of Mines.

Coleman also notched a half sack in the game.  The 17 tackles rank in a tie for seventh on Carson-Newman's single game stops list.  They are also the second most for a single game by an Eagle in the last 15 years – second only to Larry Lumpkin's 19 takedowns against Lenoir-Rhyne in 2011.

Coleman earned SAC player of the week honors following his performance against Colorado Mines, but was beat out by Mars Hill's Sammy Siasia for the honor this week.

The Eagles return to action on the road Saturday against North Greenville.  Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning on the Tailgate Show at 1:30 on the Eagle Sports Network on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM, Knoxville), 106.3 ESPN Radio the Zone (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
