AUSTIN, Texas – For the first time in Carson-Newman women's basketball history, a player has been named to an academic all-district roster in two different seasons as Braelyn Wykle earned the plaudit for a second year in a row on Thursday announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Greeneville, Tenn. is the fifth player in program history to earn a slot on an academic roster most recently accomplished by Kayla Marosites, a third-team Academic All-American in 2019-20. Monica Ashburn was an all-district selection in 2003 while Missy Brown and Karen Morton were Academic All-Americans in 1982 and 1986 respectively.

Wykle sports a 3.65 grade-point average majoring in nursing. Out of the six players listed in District three, a trio hail from the South Atlantic Conference. It is the 17th overall career accolade for the former All-American.

The 2020-21 SAC Player of the Year is producing another stellar season as she ranks in the top 40 nationally in scoring (No. 37) and field goals made (No. 35). She is third in the conference free throws made, fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio, fourth in free-throw percentage fifth in three-pointers, sixth in steals and eighth in field-goal percentage.

Overall on the season, the junior has posted 23 double-digit scoring efforts and a dozen games with at least 20 leading the team in scoring 17 times in 25 games. On Jan. 15, she reset her career high with 36 points against UVA Wise going 12-for-21 from the field and drilling five triples adding five steals in a win over the Cavaliers.

On Nov. 20, Wykle joined the program's 1,000-point club becoming the 28th player in Lady Eagle history to hit that marker. Since that moment, she has fired up the scoring list passing Marosites for eighth on the all-time list on Wednesday bringing her career tally to 1,394. With 174 triples she is in fifth and is the second-most accurate three-point shooter making 40.9 percent, one of two players in school history to make at least 40 percent from distance.

Showcasing an overall skill set, the two-time first-team All-SAC selection has 17 games with at least three assists and seven outings of at least three steals. She is shooting 43 percent from the floor on the year and is adding three rebounds per night.

On Jan. 10, Wykle earned the fourth SAC Player of the Week award of her career after averaging 24 points, six rebounds and three assists leading the team to a win over UVA Wise and a comeback triumph on the road against Anderson.

The Division II Google Cloud Academic All-America program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Division II Academic All-America teams.

The district consists of the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas. By earning a slot on the all-district team, Wykle is eligible for an All-American nod to be announced in late May with three teams.
