Wykle snares fifth career SAC Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the fifth time in her career Braelyn Wykle was named the South Atlantic Conference's Player of the Week announced by the league on Monday after helping Carson-Newman to wins over Queens, Mars Hill and Limestone.

This is the second award for the junior of the year and the fourth weekly laurel for the Lady Eagles this season with Lindsey Taylor (Maryville, Tenn.) taking home a pair.

The Greeneville, Tenn. native averaged 21 points, 3.3 rebounds and shot 58 percent from the field in the three affairs tallying a pair of 20-point outings.

Five players finished with double figures in Monday's win over the Royal led by 25 points from Wykle as the junior went 9-for-16 from the field and drilled six triples, one shy of tying her own school record. She vaulted up two spots on the program's scoring list into eighth passing Haris Price and Heather Ford.

On Wednesday night at Mars Hill, she led all scorers with 16 points in the game moving past former teammate Kayla Marosites for seventh on the school's scoring list. The guard added four steals and four rebounds.

To round out the week, Wykle matched Taylor for the game high with 22 points drilling four trifectas in a 38-point win over the Saints.

Overall, the Volunteer State native has scored in double figures 24 times and has 13 games with at least 20 points on the year including a 30-point outburst. She has led the team in scoring 18 times tallying 17 games with at least three assists, 10 with at least three triples and eight with at least three steals.

With 1,416 career points, Wykle is seventh and is 46 points away from jumping into fourth on the all-time C-N ledger. She has made 178 triples for her career and needs three more to move in the No. 4 slot.

On the national scale, the guard is in the top 40 nationally in points per game, free-throw percentage, and made field goals. With 56 three-pointers, she is fourth in the SAC and is third in the league with 91 made foul shots.

Wykle leads the Lady Eagles into a conference matchup against Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. from Holt Fieldhouse. Air time on the Eagle Sports Network is 5:15 p.m. with "The AEC Countdown to Tip-Off" on Mountain Sports 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and cneagles.com/live.
