ORLANDO – Carson-Newman play-by-play Voice Adam Cavalier has been lauded by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) with a pair of Stabley Writing Contest trophies at the district level.
Carson-Newman is a part of District 4 with other NCAA Division I, III, III and NAIA schools from Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.
Cavalier brought home honors in the categories for Athlete Feature for a story on former men's basketball player Andy Barnett and his battle to overcome a stroke and in Story with Video for his feature on the goat farming ways of SAC Men's Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year Sawyer Williams.
These are the Marshall alum's first wins at the district level for the Stabley Writing Contest. Both of Cavalier's stories move on to the national competition, the winners of which will be unveiled on June 5.
Winners are judged on a stories organization and flow; grammar and punctuation; originality; focus and clarity; and video correlation to the story (for the video category only).
The Montgomery, W.Va.-native is one of two people from Division II schools (Montana State-Billings' Evan O'Kelly is the other) to win awards in multiple categories at the district level.
