Eagles set to run in Furman Invitational

Tony Parrilla Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.—After a strong showing at the Victor Ashe Meet to begin the 2015 season, Carson-Newman will pack its bags and head east down Interstate 40 to the Furman Invitational this Saturday, in Greenville, S.C.

"We had a really good showing at Victor Ashe and we will continue to get solid in our competition," coach Tony Parrilla in an interview. "All we are focusing on is coming together as a team because we have so many new faces."

This will be the first time the Eagles will compete in the Furman Invitational, a meet that features 35 different programs with multitude of Division 1 talent, as well as a number of South Atlantic Conference schools.

"I think that we will do very well," Parrilla said. "If we can finish middle of the pack against schools like Furman, Georgia, Wake Forrest, and Clemson and those type of schools, I think that we can continue to creep up a little and be good."

Carson-Newman will join Coker, Anderson, and Mars Hill in representing the SAC this weekend.

"Right now I'm just focusing on us so that we can be competitive when we need to be competitive," Parrilla added. "My main focus in going to be on conference [meet]. I just want to make sure that we are doing everything to be ready for conference."

Reigning SAC Runner of the Week Lachlan Dickie (Knoxville, Tenn.) will look to lead an Eagle club to another impressive showing this weekend.
