Eagles soar in Maryvillle Duel Meet

MORRISTOWN, Tenn.—Priscah Jemeli (Eldorett, Kenya) records her first career win as a Carson-Newman Eagle as both the men and women's team recorded top-two finishes at the Maryville Duel Meet Saturday morning.

Carson-Newman joined Maryville College, Johnson University, and South Atlantic Conference Tusculum College for a five-kilometer run at Greene Farm.

The women took home a first place finish with a total time of 1 hour and 51 minutes and finished four minutes in front of rival Tusculum College, who came in second place. The men flip-flopped, as Carson-Newman received a total time of 1 hour and 32 minutes to come in second place behind Tusculum.

Jemeli picked up the first win of her young career, finishing with a time of 20:48.9. Hannah Green came in close behind, finishing in third place and posting a time of 21:55.0. Skye McCarter, Sarah Sharp and Ashlyn Page also recorded top-ten times.

"The women showed exactly what we have been working on," Parrilla said. "They ran well and capped off a hard training phase."

Lachlan Dickie (Knoxville, Tenn.) once again paced the men as he finished in fourth place with a time of 17:36.0 and averaged a mile of 5:39.0. Anthony Jackson and Nick Guerra also finished in the top-ten, posting times of 18:33.2 and 18:54.7 respectively.

"The men had a great meet with having runners move up in their ranks," Parrilla said. "This makes it hard to pick a team to go to Louisville."

After the meet, runners from all teams took time to spend with each other by fellowshipping together and listening to speakers.

"This was our opportunity to host local teams and work in the vision that Allen Morgan has set for us as coaches," Parrilla said. "We wan to be the premier Christian University, so a meet like this drives us in that direction. After the meet, we had a guest speaker in Matthew Best, a Vol and minister, and he shared his story. Then we all ate."

Carson-Newman will take a week to rest and regroup before getting back on the running course when they head up to Kentucky for the Great Louisville Classic on October 3rd.
