Two top-20 finishes makes C-N a contender at Fast Cats Classic

OWENSBORO, K.Y.—The Carson-Newman cross country team wrapped up its regular season schedule by placing two runners in the top-20 individual standings on its way to a women's fifth and men's sixth place finish  at the Fast Cats Classic in Owensboro, K.Y. on Saturday.

"Today was an overall good day for us," coach Tony Parrilla said after the meet. "This is a great course for us and one I plan on keeping on the schedule. What we accomplished today sets us up to make some final tweaks for conference."

Lachlan Dickie (Knoxville, Tenn) ran a time of 26:31.09 in the College Men's run to place sixth overall in the eight-kilometer run, while Priscah Jemile (Eldorett, Kenya) finished the day with a 19:17.58 time in the College Women's run, good enough for 15th place individually, in the five-kilometer run.

The rest of the men's field featured four other Eagles in the top-50 in a race that boasted 129 total runners. Clark Dixon concluded the day with a 32nd place, while Jose Parrilla (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Alec Bross followed closely with a 35th and 41st place finish, respectively. Freshman Anthony Jackson rounded out the top-50 by placing 50th following a 28:34.01 time.

On the women's side of things, Hannah Green (Talbott, Tenn.) finished in 27th place out of 120 total runners. The sophomore accumulated a time of 19:33.86 in the five-kilometer trek. Sky McCarter (Sevierville, Tenn.) and Jennifer Warren finished a few slots behind in 50th and 55th place, respectively, while Sarah Honaker (Mason, Ohio) concluded a top-60 performance with a 59th place finish.

"Fifth place for the girls and sixth for the guys with two top-20 finishes calls for a good day," Parrilla added. "We are so far ahead from where we were last year and we keep improving from race to race."

Carson-Newman will take a week off to rest and prepare of the long awaited SAC Conference meet that will take place on October 24th, in Cumberland Gap, Tenn.
