C-N concludes season at Southeast Regionals

MONTEVALLO, Ala.— The Carson-Newman cross country team concluded the 2016 season with a couple of top-20 finishes as the women placed 17th and the men 19th on the day at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships in Montevallo, Ala.

The men, who competed in the 10-kilometer run, placed 19th out of 24 teams at the meet. The Eagles ran an average time of 35:40.06 in the race with a total time of 2:58.20 for 501 total points.

Mount Olive continued its dominance on the men's side with a first-place finish for the Southeast Region while SAC counter mates Mars Hill and Queens followed suit in second and third-place. Lincoln Memorial and Anderson nabbed top-10 finished while Wingate and Lenoir-Rhyne finished in front of C-N with a 14th and 15-place slotting.

For the third time this season, the men were paced by freshman Amos Korir (Eldorett, Kenya). The newcomer who claimed All-South Atlantic Conference Freshman honors two weeks ago at the conference championships led the Eagle pack with a time of 32:21.04 for 40th-place.

Luke Greer (Abington, United Kingdom) came in second on the team while still claiming a top-50 time of 32:44.65 for 49th-overall. Anthony Jackson (Manchester, Tenn.) came in 125th with a 35:06.1 while Rafael Adame, Alec Bross and Kaleb Yates all claimed top-160 times.

For the women who ran in the six-kilometer race, Carson-Newman came in 19th overall and was the sixth SAC school to place. Home standing Montevallo took the crown in the women's race while Queens, Wingate and Anderson finished second-fourth.

Other league schools to record top finishes were Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne with 12th and 15th positions in the final standings.  

For the second time this season, Sky McCarter (Sevierville, Tenn.) was the first Eagle to cross the finish line as the sophomore concluded the run with a 24:14.87 time for 77th-place. Bekah White (Rockford, Tenn.) came in next at 93rd following a 24:47.44 time and Hannah Green (Talbott, Tenn.) followed suit in the 100th-overall slot with a 24:53.96 time.

Overall, 13 Eagles combined form both the men and the women's side competed in the Southeast Regional Meet to conclude the season with a number of competitors recording one of their better runs of the seasons.

Carson-Newman wraps up the 2016 season with the conclusion of the regional meet and the SAC Championships that saw the men take home an eight-place finish and the women and fifth-place showing two weeks ago.
