Carson-Newman’s Wakefield Wins Second-Straight SAC Offensive Player of the Week Award

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Carson-Newman senior running back Buck Wakefield (Drummonds, Tenn.) has been named South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.

Wakefield wins the award for a second-straight week.

Wakefield was one of the main catalysts in helping the Eagles amass a school-record 803 yards of total offense, including a school-record 677 yards on the ground in Saturday's 70-35 win over Tusculum. He set the C-N single-game rushing record for the second-consecutive week, rushing for 333 yards on 31 carries, as the Eagles finished the year a perfect 7-0 in SAC play. He also set a C-N record with five rushing touchdowns in the game. He had touchdowns runs of 4, 8, 15, 33 and 38 yards.

For the year, Wakefield is averaging 139.6 yards per game. He has rushed for 636 yards and seven touchdowns in his last two games.

Wakefield has helped lead the Eagles to an 8-0 record since his return to the lineup after an early-season injury.

Lenoir-Rhyne defensive back Marcus Shuford was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Wingate kickoff and return specialist Bobby Seidof was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
