Eagles Ranked Fourth in Final AFCA Poll

WACO, Tex. – The Carson-Newman Eagles took the No. 4 spot in the final Division II American Football Coaches Association Poll, released on Monday.

The Eagles finished the season 11-3, reaching the national semifinals.

C-N reeled off 11-straight wins after an 0-2 start, including playoff wins over No. 6 North Alabama and No. 21 West Alabama, and a perfect 7-0 record in South Atlantic Conference play.

National Champion Northwest Missouri State claimed the top spot in the final poll, while national runner-up Grand Valley State (Mich.) took the second spot. The Bearcats beat the Lakers in Saturday’s national championship game, 30-23.

Central Washington, Carson-Newman, and Minnesota-Duluth round out the top five.

The No. 4 final ranking is the Eagles’ highest to close a season since 1999, when they took the No. 2 spot after finishing as national runner-up.
