2022-2023: McCay swam in the 400-yard freestyle relay with teammates Matthew George, Arthur Gluzman, and Hobson Stelling at the 2023 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships. The men finished sixth to grab All-American honors in 2:55.53, just shy of the program record. At the South Atlantic Conference Championships, McCay swam eight personal best times. He placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (20.31) and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (44.55). McCay placed fifth in the 50 free in 21.38 against Georgia Tech. He ended the season with eight top-5 finishes.

2021-2022: Finished top-10 in men's 100-yard freestyle at the 2022 Bluegrass Mountain Championships with a time of 45.29. Another top time for McCay is in the 50-yard freestyle at 20.6. He was an All-American in the 200-yard freestyle relay. 

High School: A multisport athlete, McCay partcipated in baseball, basketball, and track during his high school years along with swimming under coach Ben Whiteside. 

Personal: McCay is a Gold Scholar at Carson-Newman and intends to major in Business.
