2022-2023: McDowell had six top-5 finishes on the season, and he swam eight personal best times. He finished third in the 200-yard IM against Milligan in 1:59.14 and second in the 200-yard breaststroke against Emory & Henry in 2:14.46. Contributed to a second-place finish in the mens' 400-yard freestyle relay against Milligan at home (3:13.13). 

2021-2022: McDowell finished 1st in the 200-yard IM against Lees-McRae with a time of 2:00.07. Top ten finisher (9th) for the 200-yard backstroke in the 2022 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships with a finals time 1:51.10. 

2020-2021: McDowell holds the fourth fastest program time in the men's 400-yard individual medley (4:02.58). Started his C-N career with three individual top-five finishes against Milligan. Finished eleventh at the 2021 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in the men's 400-yard individual medley with his top-five program time of 4:02.58. 

High School: Top ten finisher for 200 medley relay (2nd place), 2 IM (7th), 100 backstroke (7th), 400 free relay (4th) in SC high school 5A state meet. JL Mann won South Carolina 5A Region 1 Champions (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019), JL Mann won South Carolina High School League Class 5A Boys State Champions 2019, Y-Spartaquatics team (boys and girls) received 2nd place at both Y Nationals Short Course and Long Course championship meets. South Carolina 5A Region 1 All-Region Swimmer (2018 and 2019), South Carolina All-State Swimmer (2019), Captain of Boys' Team (2019), Member of the Y Nationals Team Long Course and Short Course (2018 and 2019), Patriots Pride Award 2019

Personal: Son of Shamgar and Cheley McDowell; Intends to major in Finance/Economics at Carson-Newman. Member of Beta Club and top 4% of graduating class. Grandfather, Steve Milner, played football at Duke University 1971-1975
