ROCK HILL, S.C. – Haris Price collected 15 steals and averaged 20 points per game to lead Carson-Newman to a 3-0 week and win the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league Monday afternoon.
"Personally that's how I get going is my defense," Price stated. "If I score off of it great. If someone else scores off of it great but that's where my energy comes from is getting a steal or getting a stop."
The Lady Eagles have earned each of the first two weekly honors as Mika Wester (Newport, Tenn.) was the Player of the Week seven days ago. It is the first season that C-N has won multiple weekly awards from the conference since 2011-12 when Zoriah Williams won it twice.
In three outings, Price averaged 20.3 points per game shooting 53 percent from the floor and going 22-for-25 from the charity stripe. The Gatlinburg, Tenn. native racked up 15 steals, 13 assists and 13 rebounds.
To open the week, the junior scored 10 points and had five steals, three assists and two rebounds in an 80-52 victory at King on Wednesday night.
Carson-Newman's third road win of the year saw Price tally a career-high 29 points going 13-for-14 from the free-throw line. She added six rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 94-90 triumph at North Georgia.
In an offensive exhibition against Georgia College on Saturday, the guard racked up 22 points in 20 minutes going seven-for-nine from the floor and making all seven foul shots. Stuffing the stat sheet, Price added six steals, six assists and five rebounds.
With 115 points in a win over the Bobcats, C-N posted its third highest tally in school history. In the third quarter, C-N recorded the highest point total in a quarter in the two-year history of the quarter system with 47 points.
"We come off of a win [Wednesday] at King," Price discussed. "We couldn't really score in that game. I think going into this weekend we emphasized getting things going offensively."
Through five games, Price is second in the league with 4.2 steals per game with at least three in all five games on the year. She is fifth in points per game with 16.2, sixth in assists with 4.4 and seventh in free-throw percentage at 89 percent.
