Two players in top 10, Eagles in second after two rounds of Sunoco Oil Campbell Classic

WALLACE, N.C. – Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) and Taylor Hayes (Lake Ozark, Mo.) both find themselves in the top 10 and the Carson-Newman women's golf team sits in a deadlock for second with the Queens (N.C.) Royals following two rounds of play at the Sunoco Oil Campbell Classic at the River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C on Monday.

"We got some really good results today," said coach Suzanne Strudwick. "Everyone is starting to click. I'm really excited about the play of Rachel [Watts] (Newport, Tenn.), who shot a collegiate-low today, as well as for Allie [Fletcher] (Cumming, Ga.), who did the same."

England, who is coming off a victory at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, is in fourth place after 36 holes, four strokes off the lead. The junior shot a 75 in round one and improved to a 73 in the afternoon for a total of 148 that has her at +4.

Not far behind her teammate is Hayes, who's tied for sixth at seven-over. She carded a 77 in the morning and improved by three strokes in round two, which moved her four spots up the leaderboard. She will be looking for her first career title on Tuesday.

For Fletcher, her best round not just of the event, but of her freshman season came during her second time on the links, when she carded a 76 after an 80 in round one. This allowed the Georgia native to jump from 27th to 15th with a mark of 12-over.

One of the student-athletes also at +12 heading into the final round is Watts, who climbed even further up the leaderboard. After starting the competition with an 81 and tying for 34th, Watts knocked six strokes off her game for a 75, her best score in the Orange and Blue. If Fletcher and Watts are able to maintain or improve upon their current positions, they would achieve their best finish in a collegiate event.

Tied for 31st is Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.), thanks to a 16-over 160 through 36 holes. Reagan Kinnie (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) is in the field as an individual and she joined England and Hayes in the top 10 by tying for eighth. The freshman currently owns an eight-over 152 that includes a second-round 74, which allowed her to slide up from 17th. She is shooting for her second top 10 finish as an Eagle.

The overall leader at River Landing is Katy Flax from UNC-Pembroke thanks in large part to a 68 the first time she navigated the course. She possess a 144 that puts her at even par. She has also led the Braves into first place at 31-over. The Eagles and Royals will be looking to make up the four-stroke deficit during the tourney's final 18 holes.

The final round in Wallace is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Once the action has concluded, visit cneagles.com for results and a full recap.
