JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Carson-Newman women's golf team fell four strokes off their pace on Monday, shooting a 35-over 323 to finish tied for 11th at the Flagler Fall Slam at the Marsh Creek Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida on Tuesday.
"We struggled a bit today," coach Suzanne Strudwick said, "but we have a really good idea of what we need to work on. Elizabeth [England] (Oakland, Tenn.) was outstanding, especially with the whole team coming down with the flu. We're thankful for a few days off."
For the second consecutive day, England was the best player on the course for Carson-Newman. She carded a four-over 76, just one stroke off her first round score and ended the tournament tied for 12th at plus-seven. The junior has posted her team's lowest 18-hole score in all three tournaments.
Taylor Hayes (Lake Ozark, Mo.) and Reagan Kinnie (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) finished second and third for C-N, respectively. Both golfers showed improvement off their performances on Monday. Hayes cut one stroke off her score, shooting a plus-eight 80 and ending the event in 48th. Kinnie knocked five shots off her score for a 79 and moved up 11 places, concluding her 36 holes tied for 55th.
Allie Fletcher (Cumming, Ga.) finished her third competition as an Eagle tied for 64th and senior Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) capped the event in 77th place. Freshman Rachel Watts (Newport, Tenn.), playing the event as an individual, placed 87th.
Barry University, the 11th ranked team in the country, won the tournament for the second straight year. They finished 17 strokes better than the second place team, Flagler, the event's host school. Barry's top golfer, Tilda Larsson, came away with the tournament's individual crown, with a score of even par.
