ROCK HILL, S.C. – The South Atlantic Conference released its postseason honors Wednesday afternoon as Carson-Newman saw libero Taylor Lowe tabbed honorable mention all-conference and outside hitter Marnie Streeter placed on the all-freshman team.
"It's obviously great to end on a high note," Lowe said. "It's crazy to look back on these four years having been through three coaches. I think that adversity has really helped me the last four years. It's been great to learn from three great coaches with different styles. In the end that's what helped me the most and prepare for this year."
Lowe is the first libero for C-N to be placed on an all-conference squad since the program's leader in digs, Blaire Young, was a first-team pick in 2005. The Franklin, Tenn. native closed out her career with a total of 2,261 digs to finish second behind Young's 2,550 mark from 2002-05. With 708 scoops in 2016, Lowe accumulates the fourth-most in a single season in school history.
In her career, the libero has led the Eagles in digs 95 times and has 43 contests with 20 more scoops. Her career-high for digs is 46 coming in her final match in the Orange and Blue against Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. It was the fourth-most digs in any Division II match in 2016.
She finishes the 2016 regular season seventh in country and tops in the league with 6.05 digs per set and second in the nation with 708 total digs behind Bellarmine's Jordyn Kuchenbrod's 788.
Lowe adds the conference honor to Southeast Region All-Tournament Team selection in 2014. Overall in her career, the senior played in 482 sets to rank sixth in program history in that category while competing in 130 total matches.
Streeter is the eighth Carson-Newman rookie to earn a spot on the all-freshman squad since its inception prior to the 2005 season. The Goldvein, Va. native finished the season fifth in the conference in total kills with 345 and seventh in kills per set with 3.03. The 345 total smashes are the most by a C-N freshman since Melissa Miller racked up 367 in 2003.
The outside hitter had 18 double-digit matches in 2016 including a string of 12 consecutive contests to close out the year where she averaged 3.83 kills per frame. She led the team in kills in 20 of the 30 games as a freshman while tallying a career-high 21 on a .288 attack percentage in a five-set victory over Augusta on Oct. 14.
During the season, Streeter tallied her lone double-double on Nov. 5 at Catawba College where she piled up 15 kills and 12 digs against the Catawba Indians.
"Marnie is one of the hardest workers I have ever played with," Lowe said. "I think that's a tribute to how hard our team worked as a whole. We didn't let our record dictate our work ethic in practice. I think that is a great thing for the whole team to take away from this season. You always have to work hard no matter what outcome is."
