From now until Jan. 1, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department will debut the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester. These are the fall nominees for Game of the Year. Thursday, we'll unveil the candidates for Upset of the Year.
The fourth annual Frosty Awards will take place in April and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department.

Men's Basketball v. LMU: Malik Abraham (Snellville, Ga.) delivered the knockout blow with a second left in overtime with to a 17-foot two from the right wing to propel Carson-Newman to a 111-109 overtime victory over No. 6 Lincoln Memorial. The game featured a whopping 17 ties and 22 lead changes. Neither team led by more than seven throughout in the 202nd meeting between the rivals. The win for Carson-Newman ties the series 101-101. The Railsplitters trailed by five with 31 seconds to play in overtime following a pair of Charles Clark free throws. A Luquon Choice three brought the Railsplitters within a pair, then Cornelius Taylor forced a turnover to get LMU the ball with 17 seconds to play. Paul Woodson followed up a miss with a bunny from the left block to tie it at 109. However, Shaun Jones found Abraham streaking up the floor along the right sideline to set up the heroics for the Eagles.
Women's Soccer v. Wingate (SAC Title): Coach Richard Moodie's squad entered this contest hoping to earn their second straight SAC title and they accomplished their goal by knocking off Wingate 2-1. Julianne Herrity (Donegal, Ireland) and Holly Talbut-Smith (Crawley, England) found the back of the net in the first half to stake the Eagles to a two-goal lead. The C-N defense kept Wingate off the scoreboard for more than 80 minutes to begin the match before conceding the only goal they allowed all day. The championship is the sixth the women have captured in their history.
Volleyball v. Augusta: Alex Biro, Abbie McFarlane and Marnie Streeter combined for 56 kills as Carson-Newman seized a five-set match over Augusta 25-15, 23-25, 25-27, 27-25 and 15-11 on Oct. 14 at Holt Fieldhouse. The contest featured 19 ties and eight lead changes. Carson-Newman (3-14) racked up 17.5 blocks tallying its most rejections since recording 19 against Newberry on Oct. 22, 2011. McFarlane and Streeter are the first duo of Eagles to rack up 20 kills each in the same match since Nov. 12, 2010 when Carly Mozgai had 29 and Nikki James had 21 against Catawba. Carson-Newman hit a season-high .299, besting a .227 mark against Mars Hill, to go along with 74 digs, 17.5 blocks and five service aces.
