Carson-Newman Track Teams Have Strong Showing in Tennessee Tech Invitational

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman men's and women's track teams participated in their first outdoor event of the season on Saturday in the Tennessee Tech Invitational at Tucker Stadium.

The Eagles finished fifth, while the Lady Eagles claimed fourth place.

In a meet that featured a blend of Division I and Division II athletes, several team members had strong showings.

Senior Antonio Gomez (Brewton, Ala.) finished first in the 110-meter hurdles to lead the Eagles, while freshman Stephen Brown (Washington, D.C.) turned in a fourth place finish in the high jump.

For the Lady Eagles, Catelyn Dake (Knoxville, Tenn.) claimed third in the 800-meter run.

The team of Tiffany Winchell (White Pine, Tenn.), Rachel Logemann (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Brooke Earhart (Dixon, Tenn.) and Dake finished second in the 4 X 400-meter relay.

Earhart also finished seventh in both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs, while Chelsie Woods (Bristol, Va.) crossed the finish line in eighth place in the 100-meter dash.

The Eagles and Lady Eagles return to action on April 10 at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.
