Potts-Howard has a strong showing on day one of the 2017 Outdoor Championships

BRADENTON, Fla. – In day one of the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Carson-Newman long jumper Kristofer Potts-Howard (Tullahoma, Tenn.) finished 13th with a jump of 6.99 meters.

 

"Today, we hope this is the first of many appearances at the National Championships." Carson-Newman David Needs said, "His (Potts-Howard) performance today was part of the learning process and knowing Kris he will take this experience and become an even better jumper. He came in 19th and finished 13th in the competition. I hope this is a sign of great things to come."

 

The sophomore out of Tullahoma landed two successful jumps at 6.95 and 6.99 meters. Potts-Howard faulted on his third and final attempt of the afternoon.  

 

Fellow South Atlantic Conference member Andrew Spence of Wingate, was unable to place a qualifying jump during his three attempts at the Outdoor Championships.

 

Sedeekie Edie of Lincoln (Mo.) won the event with a jump of 7.77 meters. Marquise Corbett of Tiffin and Lawrence Russell Jr. of Barton tied for second with a jump of 7.72 meters. Coming third was Cervantes Jackson of Albany State with a jump of 7.60 meters.

 

The next Eagle participant in the Outdoor Championships is high jumper Tanner Stepp (Jefferson City, Tenn.). The junior will compete in the high jump finals on Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. The Jefferson City native will attempt to pick-up his third All-American honor at the Outdoor Championships.
