Eagles blanked at Pfeiffer, 2-0

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Three different pitchers combined to toss a one-hit shutout, while a two-run double provided all of the offense needed, as Pfeiffer University blanked visiting Carson-Newman College 2-0 in baseball action on Wednesday at Joe Ferebee Field.

Pfeiffer's Jeff Barkley (Charlotte, NC), Chuck Ingram (Richfield, NC) and Adam Sedberry (Monroe, NC) teamed up to help pitch the Falcons to 4-4 on the season while the Eagles fall to 3-5.

Barkley tossed the first six innings on Wednesday allowing just the one hit with three strikeouts in the win.

First baseman Kyle Koeneman had the Eagles lone hit in the 1 hour, 50-minute contest. He singled to centerfield to leadoff the second inning.

Carson-Newman's Lucas Watson pitched 5.1 innings on one-hit ball in relief of C-N starter J.M. Spangler. Ben McKinney allowed one hit in the eighth in making his first appearance of the season.

Dalton Lindley (Siler City, NC) put the Falcons with the only runs needed in the first with a two-out double down the left field line that scored Jon Gray (Granite Falls, NC) and Preston Lyon (Gastonia, NC). Gray would keep the inning alive by reaching on a fielder's choice while Lyon singled to left. 

Carson-Newman opens South Atlantic Conference play on Friday against Anderson (S.C.). The Eagles open the three-game road series at 6 p.m. Friday night. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
