Swimming splashes into Saturday against Lees-McRae

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- After a successful time and many top times nationally in Atlanta, the Carson-Newman swimming program is back at home for their final dual meet of the fall this Saturday. The Eagles will welcome in the Lees-McRae Bobcats on Saturday for action to begin at 1 p.m. from the MSAC pool in Jefferson City.

The team, ranked 5th nationally on the women's side while the men are ranked 8th, are back at their home pool for competition for the first time since October 8 when they hosted the sixth annual Blue v. Orange intrasquad meet.

The Eagles and Bobcats last met as part of the Senior Day celebration last spring for C-N swim. The Eagles pulled out the team victory 390-116 over the Bobcats of Lees-McRae; men were victors 199-53 while the women gather another top-notch win 191-63.

Among many of the bright spots for the Eagles that day was freshman Denilson Cyprianos (Bulawayo, Matabeleland, Zimbabwe). Cyprianos won the men's 1000 free (9:42.89) in his first attempt at the event, the men's 200-free in a time of 1:45.10, the men's 100 back in a time of 50.45, the men's 200 back in a time of 1:49.70 and ended his day with the victory in the men's 500 free with a time of 4:46.82.

""I'm really excited to be apart of the team even though my arrival was delayed. Competing for the first time in the 1000 free and winning is something I'm proud of for sure," Cyprianos said.

On the women's side, one of the biggest standouts was sophomore Linda Ungerboeck (Vienna, Austria). She was the victor in the women's 1000 free in 10:40.03 while also being the anchor leg of a women's 400 freestyle relay team to end the meet.

In their last action this season, Carson-Newman took home third place on both the men's and women's side from the Emory Invitational last weekend. The Eagles finished behind first place and host school, Emory, and fellow Bluegrass Mountain Conference foe, Wingate, who claimed second on both sides. The women's team for the Eagles finished with 396 points while the men's team was able to finish their two days of action with 454 points.

Looks like there is no stopping Kailee Morgan when it comes to the breaststroke event in 2021. After claiming the women's 100-yard breaststroke in day one from Atlanta, Morgan finished the event sweep as she won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:17.84. Morgan now holds the third and fourth fastest times in the event with her times from the Emory Invitational.

For the second straight day, Igor Dantas can call himself an event winner in the freestyle for the Eagles. After capturing the men's 100-yard freestyle victory, the Brazil native doubled up his event victories with a time of 1:39.37 to win the men's 200-yard freestyle on day two of action. The Brazil native can now claim the sixth and eighth-fastest times for the event after his performances in Atlanta.

The Eagles look ahead to getting into the water and continuing their fall slate of events as they splash into action versus the Bobcats Saturday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. from the MSAC in Jefferson City, Tennessee.
