C-N Swim wins at home against Emory & Henry

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman swim stings the Wasps at home.

The men's and women's swim teams finished the last meet of 2022 with a win over Emory & Henry this weekend. The Eagles finished with an overall team score of 327-74.

The Eagles placed first in every event of the meet in both men's and women's events.

The women contributed 165 of the points to the team score and finished with. Kennadi King, Lily Parr, Lillian Hilt, Maria Tirulli, Manon Compagner, Kyla Blakemore, Linda Ungerboeck, Alina Tasman, Breanna Belcher, and Rachel Peden all picked up first-place finishes throughout the meet. Peden finished first in the women's 1000-yard freestyle event with a time of 10:59.31.

"As far as the whole team goes, we are really broken down, but we are trying to have fun with it and really focus on the details," women's swimmer Rachel Peden said.

The men contributed 162 points to the team score. Alonso Castro, Will Humphreys, Arthur Gluzman, Henrique Januario, Guilherme Martins, Matt George, and Jakov Igrec all secured gold in at least one event.

"I feel great. Our bodies are feeling tired, but our minds are great. We are having fun swimming," men's swimmer Malte Brons said.

The Eagles will swim again Jan.19 at the University of Tennessee. However, the team will continue to train over the long break.

"Our momentum is carrying, so we are excited that we are in a good place right now. We are here for the next week, and we are going to train a lot. I talked about going back to the drawing board, so we will use this next little bit of time to train, buckle down, and take care of business," Carson-Newman head swim coach Ben Young said.

Carson-Newman swim is back in action on Jan. 19 in Knoxville, Tenn.
