Clark honored as TSWA State Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

NASHVILLE,Tenn. – For the second time in as many weeks as the award has been presented, Carson-Newman sophomore guard Charles Clark (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) has been presented with the Tennessee Sportswriters' Association's men's basketball player of the week.

Clark earned the award last year after he won SAC tournament MVP honors while averaging 24.3 points and 5.7 rebounds and helping the Eagles advance to the NCAA Tournament with a 63-48 victory over the top-seeded and third-ranked Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters in the SAC title game.

This time, Clark started the year averaging 23 points per game and shooting 60 percent from the field.

Clark began the season with a 26-point effort in C-N's 83-69 win over Southern Wesleyan and followed that up with 20 points in the Eagles' 72-65 loss to Lander. The games were Clark's ninth and 10th career 20-point games.  He's crested the 20-point mark in five straight games.

The sophomore guard connected on a career-best five three-pointers in nine attempts in the loss Saturday against Lander.

Clark and the rest of the Eagles will be on display Wednesday night in Holt Fieldhouse against Johnson C. Smith at 7.  Coverage for the game will be available on the Eagle Sports Network on Mountain Country 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
