JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman women's golfer Danielle Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.) and football running back Damian Baker (Columbus, Miss.) have been named Bojangles' Female and Male Athletes of the Week.
Senior women's golfer Danielle Baiunco fulfilled the wishes of coach Suzanne Strudwick last week at the Fighting Camel Fall Classic.
In a field full of Division-I golfers, the Melbourne, Fla.-native used three consistent rounds to finish as the low-scorer for the Eagles' golf team and the third-lowest D-II golfer.
Baiunco shot rounds of 76, 77 and 76 to finish in a tie for 13th and she moved up the leaderboard two spots during the final round. Her two rounds of 76 were the third-lowest scores she has shot this season.
Damian Baker entered Saturday's game with North Greenville with just 24 carries. However, the Columbus, Miss.-native was called to tote the rock 25 times that game.
Baker responded by rushing for 133 yards – a career high – and three touchdowns, including the game winner – an 18-yard draw play - with a little over nine minutes remaining in the contest.
Baker scored on runs of five, one and 18 yards. He became the fourth different Carson-Newman football player to rush for 100 yards this season.
Bojangles is a proud corporate sponsor of Carson-Newman athletics. Eagle fans can get a free large sweet tea from the Jefferson City location the Saturday and Sunday after a Carson-Newman football game where the Eagles score 28 points or more by telling the cashier, "It's Bo Time at Carson-Newman."
