Carson-Newman head football coach Ken Sparks touted quarterback Noah Suber (Asheville, N.C.) and several other offensive and defensive playmakers as highlights from C-N's annual media day scrimmage. 

"There were definitely some bright spots," Sparks said. "And then there were some spots where we didn't play assignment football and were playing with a lack of discipline.  But considering we went through a three-a-day yesterday, I thought they showed good effort. After three days in pads and this scrimmage, we're encouraged."

Suber found the end zone once on a quarterback sneak and found multiple wide receivers on short to intermediate passing routes down the field.

"Noah ran the offense very well," Sparks said. "We want QBs to grade out at 85 percent. At first glance, I'd say he graded out over 90 percent. It wasn't just him though.  We had some guys make plays defensively and force some turnovers."

Montavious Taylor (Atlanta, Ga.), Jamal Jones (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Antonio Wimbush (Kingsland, Ga.) all tallied rushes longer than 10 yards, with both Taylor and Wimbush finding the end zone. 

The second unit also performed well, albeit not as consistently.  Tyson Herron (Bogart, Ga.) hit Dorren Miller (Roswell, Ga.) for a 30-yard score.  Then Derrick Evans (Macon, Ga.) got in on the action, hooking up with Kevin Snead (Richmond, Va.) for a 99-yard touchdown. 

Evans also scored a five-yard TD on a QB bootleg in a goal line situation, before hitting Miller with a five-yard fade for a score on the left side of the end zone. 

Defensively, Hayden Hester (Kingston, Tenn.) blocked a field goal, while Braxton Dockery (Seymour, Tenn.) and Antonio Henderson (Palmetto, Fla.) caused turnovers with an interception, and a fumble recovery, respectively.

The scrimmage ends a stretch of five practices in three days for the Eagles.

"Any time you get challenge inside, you have to respond to that," Sparks said. "Life doesn't always go the way you want it to go.  We have to make sure we're working on what's inside us so the rest can take care of itself."

The Eagles take to Burke-Tarr again Saturday for the second of three preseason scrimmages.
