Orange Crush matches with Blue Waves in C-N football spring game Friday

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – A draft has been conducted. Coaching staffs have been divided. Orange will match wits with Blue when Carson-Newman football puts on its annual spring game Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Burke-Tarr Stadium.

"What we have talked about all spring is competing," Carson-Newman head football coach Mike Clowney said. "That's what our main objective with this is, to put guys in game situations and watch them be able to compete. We've done a ton of regular situational stuff to force them to think and work at the same time. We think it's a good move for us to go away from the situational scrimmages of years past and put them in a uniform and let them go out and have fun."

There is no cost for admission and the event is free and open to the public.

The spring game is slated for two, 15-minute quarters with the potential for more to be played.

The only special rules in place involve the kicking game. There will be no kickoff or punt returns. Everything must be fair caught.

Offensive coordinator Brock Pursley is the head coach of the Orange Crush, he will be assisted by Johnson Jamison, Josh Turner, Antonio Goss, Mason Mounger and Peyton Wilson.

Defensive coordinator Larry Slade is at the helm of the Blue Waves. His assistants are Bret Story, Coy DeWeese, Joe Ray, Scott Brock, Ben Housewright and Joel McDevitt.

Major Williams and Colt Sinor drafted for the Orange team, while Frank Lee and Travaunta Abner conducted the draft for the Blue team.
