Male Freshman of the Year

Jackson Ward (Football)

Ward tallied 37 tackles in his first season at C-N.  He had 28 solo stops with a pick against Lenoir-Rhyne.  Ward had seven tackles against eventual regional semifinalist West Georgia in the Eagles' season opener and tallied another seven-tackle game against the Bears.

Jalen Anderson (Football)

Anderson started in seven out of eight games en route to a 20-tackle season. Anderson led the Eagles with a pair of picks on the year, seizing INTs against West Georgia and at UVA Wise.  He had two five-tackle games against Lenoir-Rhyne and Limestone.

Marius Opdahl (Soccer)

Marius Opdahl recorded just one start during his entire freshman season, but made an impact whenever he was on the pitch. Opdahl scored the game-winning goal in the 95th minute against Queens to give the Eagles a crucial 1-0 win over the Royals. Just four days later, Opdahl scored his second straight game-winner in the Eagles 2-0 victory over Shaw.

Lamarcus Brown (Football)

Brown earned the starting job at quarterback in week four and finished out the season as the Eagles' starter under center. Brown finished the year with 678 yards passing and four touchdowns.  He was Carson-Newman's second-leading rusher with 249 yards and three touchdowns.

Hobson Stelling (Swimming)

Stelling had his best performance against Lees-McRae as he would win both the men's 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard freestyle. He came in first during the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.79, while his victory in the 100-yard freestyle came in a time of 46.49. The Memphis native also captured a pair of top-25 finishes while competing in the UT Invitational. He came in 24th overall for the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.26 while capturing 25th place in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:39.13. Since joining the program, Stelling has also amassed top-five event finishes on four separate occasions, including a trio as part of the King Invitational. While competing in Kingsport, Stelling came in second for the 50-yard freestyle, fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle.

John Zhao (Men's Basketball)

Zhao made an immediate impact for Carson-Newman's men's basketball program. He led the team in scoring with 18 points in a one-point loss at the buzzer against No. 4 Queens.  He already has a pair of double-digit scoring efforts a third of the way through his first men's basketball campaign.

Marnix Van Dalen (Tennis)

In his first fall season for C-N, Van Dalen compiled one of the best records for CNMT as he finished 8-2 overall. The freshman started off his time as an Eagle with four consecutive singles victories before losing in the round of 64 of the ITA Southeast Regionals. Van Dalen wrapped up his fall season with four consecutive victories, including ending his fall in the Eagle Invitational and taking the West finals of flight A.
