Lady Eagles welcome Lions to Holt Fieldhouse for SAC tilt

Carson-Newman Women's Basketball Game Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Looking to continue their momentum, the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles (4-0, South Atlantic Conference) welcome the Mars Hill Lions (2-2, 1-1 SAC) to Holt Fieldhouse Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. league tilt.

"We didn't guard the three-point shooters as well as we would've liked," head coach Mike Mincey said after beating Coker on Saturday. "Mars Hill put up 90 at LMU. They have one transfer in that is scoring the ball really well. They are going to be a good scoring team. We are going to have to get it done on the defensive end."

The hot start to the year has led the Lady Eagles to be ranked second in the Southeast Region by D2SIDA as Carson-Newman is just behind Newberry after receiving one of the three first place votes.

Carson-Newman is coming off of a dominant rebounding performance against the Cobras on Saturday when it outrebounded Coker 45-21 including ripping down 20 offensive rebounds. The +24 rebounding margin is the largest rebounding margin by a Lady Eagle squad since a +26 performance versus Brevard on November 22, 2012.

Mars Hill is one of the top rebounding teams in the conference ripping down 44 per contest. The Lady Eagles currently lead the conference by averaging 75 points per game with Mars Hill not too far behind with 73.5 points per outing. Camille Glymph is second in the SAC with 18.5 points per games as she has scored 30 and 22 in her last two games while shooting 51 percent from the floor in that span.

Carson-Newman's freshman had a huge week leading the Lady Eagles to a pair of victories last week. Forwards Allison Hodge (Blaine, Tenn.) and Jecca Simerly (Talbott, Tenn.) each went off for 20 or more points last week with Hodge putting up 24 at Tusculum and Simerly dropping 27 against Coker.

The Lions and Lady Eagles have met 64 times with Carson-Newman holding a 46-17 advantage in the all-time series history. Carson-Newman earned a pair of victories a season ago and have won four straight dating back to an 83-73 win by the Lions on February 15, 2012.

Four different players scored in double figures in last year's meeting at Holt Fieldhouse led by 15 points and six rebounds by sophomore forward Kaitlyn Cupples (Clinton, Tenn.).

The broadcast begins at 5:45 on the Eagle Sports Network's flagship station 106.3 WPFT-FM with "The AEC Countdown to Tip-off" while fans can catch the high definition video stream on cneagles.com/live.
