
Hollifield Adds Three for Upcoming Season

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman softball coach Vickee Hollifield announced the remainder of her signing class for the 2008-09 season on Tuesday morning.
Kimberly Whaley comes from William Blount High School in nearby Maryville, where she was also a standout basketball player.
Whaley can play both in the infield and outfield. Whaley was a three-time All-District selection during her career, and was the team's Co-MVP in 2008.
Mary Shealy, a pitcher for Clinton, South Carolina, comes to Jefferson City with All-State credentials. She finished this past season with a 19-3 record and a 1.19 earned run average, and leaves Clinton High School as the winningest pitcher in school history.
Ashlee Dillard is a catcher from Roanoke, Virginia She was both a first team All-District and All-Region selection in 2008 for William Byrd High School. She also played volleyball.
These three student-athletes join Laura Potts and Amy Lawrence, who signed with Carson-Newman earlier this year.
Potts, a Jefferson County-product, and was a starter for both the softball and basketball teams, earning All-IMAC honors at shortstop.
Lawrence is fresh off a Class AA State Tournament appearance during her senior year at Gibbs High School in Corryton. The Lady Eagles advanced to the championship game, where they lost to Goodpasture.
Lawrence batted .431 as a third baseman this past season, with three home runs, 34 runs scored, and 26 walks. She received All-State recognition, in addition to garnering her third consecutive All-District selection.
Carson-Newman finished the 2008 season 49-8, setting a school record for wins in a single season.
