CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Swimming program wrapped up their time at the inaugural Winter Round Robin at Queens University against Lenoir-Rhyne Friday afternoon.

The Eagles attacked the water head-on against the Bears to garner as many individual wins as possible. The Eagles and Bears competed in the 1650-freestyle, 200-yd backstroke, 100-yd freestyle, 200-yd breaststroke, 200-yd butterfly, and the 400-yd freestyle relay.

To kick off today's session, Rebecca Peden (Boiling Springs, S.C.) came in at 17:15.21 (3rd fastest in program history) while her twin sister Rachel (Boiling Springs, S.C.) finished close behind with a time of 17:15.72 (4th fastest in program history) in the women's 1650 freestyle.

The men's side of the 1650 freestyle saw similar success. Freshman Will Houghton (Canton, Ga.) and Adam Jones (Huntsville, Ala.) set the 3rd and 4th fastest men's 1650 free times in program history with times of 16:11.49 (Houghton) and 16:11.53 (Jones).

Other top finishes for the Eagles to garner top-5 program times were:

  • Matthew George (Manchester, England) collecting the 3rd fastest time in the men's 200 backstroke at 1:47.54.
  • Manon Compagner (Balkburg, The Netherlands) with a time of 50.23 which is 2nd fastest time in the women's 100 freestyle in C-N program history.

Senior CJ Jensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) continued her individual success at the Winter Round Robin after a record-breaking performance last night. In the women's 200-yd butterfly, Jensen swam a 2:05.81 time, good enough for a XX place finish. After the event, Jensen now holds 3 out of the top 5 times in program history for the event.

Sophomore Raphael Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) kept his 2020 success rolling with a time of 43.94 in the men's 100 freestyle. This is Lima's second fastest time in the event for the 2020 season and stands as the third fastest time in program history for the event.

The final event, 400-yd freestyle relay, was a total Eagle affair with both men's and women's taking victories. The women's came in with a time of 3:29.04 by team "A" of Compagner, Kennadi King (Marietta, Ga.), Chrisman Rand (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), and Antonia Sanint (Bogota, Colombia). For the men's 400-yd freestyle relay, the Eagles were victors when team "A" of George, Chase Rayment (South Africa), Nikita Puzevich (Belarus), and Lima swam a time of 2:59.35.

The Eagles will be back in action to start the 2021 schedule on January 16 when they welcome the Mars Hill Lions to the MSAC where the Eagles hold a 24-5 home record since the program came into existence back in 2013-14.
