Eagles welcome Bobcats to MSAC Saturday

Video: Jordan Taylor Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – They started the year off at home, so it's only fitting the Eagles of Carson-Newman Swimming end the regular season inside the MSAC Saturday. The Eagles continue the 2021 portion of their schedule in a dual-meet against Lees-McRae on Saturday inside the MSAC at 1 pm.

C-N, ranked 7th on the women's side and 8th on the men's end, is coming off a dominant 392-129 drubbing of Emmanuel College on Saturday, Jan. 30 in Jefferson City. This weekend marks a spot which many coaches are hoping to get to in their respective sports: regular season finale. For head coach Jordan Taylor and the swimming Eagles, this is a moment which they knew could happen but was up to them to achieve.

"It's a miracle we've gotten this far. Coming into the season, we were really unsure what was going to happen. We are glad to be able to help celebrate the seniors and show our appreciation for what they have done for us," Carson-Newman coach Jordan Taylor said. "This meet helps both teams fine tune final steps heading into Conference. We've always talked about controlling what is in front of us."

Lees-McRae is a member of the Conference Carolinas. So far this season, the Bobcats are 4-1 on the men's side while the women are 5-0 this season. The Bobcats are ranked No. 35 in all DII for men's and no. 38 for the women's side.

"This meet allowing fans will be a nice change as we welcome maybe 30 fans. We'll have a different lineup as we try to athletes certain event times," Taylor said.

Taylor intends to use this meet for multiple purposes, but none more than help celebrate the seniors leaving their legacy in the pool. Beyond Senior Day, Taylor and the Eagles will use this as a final stepping stone to rest and recover in order to perform their best at the BMC Championships from Feb. 18 to Feb 21. in Fort Mill, S.C.

"Our team has been swimming well all year and getting better every week getting national recognition. We are ready excited to see where our team is and how we have handled this crazy year. Conference better be ready for us because we are truly ready for them," Taylor said. "We've been able to learn from all our races as well as add to our program after Christmas. We are set to go into Conference with the strongest team we have ever had, but it's up to the team to achieve that. Some of our seniors are wildly impressed by the action and competition of this team which is pretty cool."
