Oldenburger named back-to-back SAC Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the second straight week, senior outside hitter Megan Oldenburger became the first individual in C-N history to be named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in two straight weeks released on Wednesday by the league following another superb effort.

She is the first player to win the laurel in two consecutive weeks since Casey Tarvin from Queens did so on Nov. 5 and Nov. 12, 2019. The Eagles have not won multiple weekly since the program took home three in 2017 with Marnie Streeter being the player of the week twice. The last time the Orange and Blue went back-to-back was in 2015 when Sara Fairley and Maddie Borch did so in late October as the school won six of the 11 player of the week honors under Dan Ahiers.

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native opened her week by tallying 24 kills hitting .300 adding 14 digs for her second double-double of the year in a five-set win over Queens. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native became the first Eagle with 20-plus kills since Marnie Streeter had 24 against Anderson in the SAC semifinals on Nov. 17, 2017, 68 matches and 1,226 days prior to Friday night.

One night later, she helped guide the team to a sweep of Limestone with eight kills and nine digs. Oldenburger leads the conference in total kills with 64 on the year ranking second with 4.00 per set. Among players with 40-plus kill she is fourth with a .255 hitting percentage.

After leading Carson-Newman to victory last night, the senior sits at 971 career kills narrowing in on becoming the 14th player in school history to hit the four-digit mark.

With three aces at UVA Wise she has pulled even with Daphne Epting's (1994-97) ninth on the career aces list with 111.

The two-time All-SAC selection sits at 1,153 career digs, good for 11th. She is looking to join Jenna Rust, Kendra Rickersten and Melissa Miller as the only players in school history with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.

The Eagles get a break from action for 10 days before returning to the court next weekend with two more road trips taking on Lenoir-Rhyne on March 19 at 7 p.m. and Mars Hill on Saturday, March 20 at 2 p.m. inside of Stanford Arena.
