Browder garners TSWA State Player of the Week honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman sophomore small forward Jack Browder has been named the Tennessee Sportswriters' Association (TSWA) State Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.

The weekly accolade is the first for Browder in his career.  He is the first Carson-Newman men's basketball player presented the TSWA State Player of the Week award since Ren Dyer garnered an honor from the organization on Dec. 9, 2022.

Browder helped pave the way for Carson-Newman's first 2-0 start since 2018.  He averaged 19.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, a block and a steal per game across the Eagles' 101-77 win over Lees-McRae and 74-72 triumph over King.

The sophomore started his weekend by turning in his first career double-double. He went for 22 points and added in a career-best 12 boards.  It marked the first 20-point double-double for C-N since Bryant Thomas did it last year against Lees-McRae.  The 20-point effort was his second-career 20-point game.

He followed that up with 17 points against King in the Eagles' come-from-behind effort.  He added in six rebounds against the Tornado.

Browder was a combined 14-of-16 at the charity stripe on the week.

The small forward and the rest of the Eagles will be in action Saturday in their home opener against Southern Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network starts at 1:45 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff online at cneagles.com/live. A video stream is available through FloSports for a subscription.
