Fall Frosty Awards Nominees: Male Newcomer of the Year

From now until Jan. 2, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department will debut the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester.  These are the fall nominees for Male Newcomer of the Year. Friday, we'll unveil the candidates for Coach of the Year. 

The 11th annual Frosty Awards will take place April 30 and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department.

Male Newcomer of the Year 

William Johnson III (Football): Johnson started the final six games of the year as the Eagles' starting nickelback.  He wrapped up the year with 31 tackles and a pick six against UVA Wise.  Johnson had six tackles, five of which were solo in the regular season finale against Catawba. 

Jomier Augustine (Football): Augustine pushed into the starting lineup the final six games of the year at linebacker. He closed the season with 42 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.  He topped out at 10 tackles in the Eagles 14-10 win at Erskine.  He was responsible for a forced fumble against Tusculum.   

Christian Hicks (Football): Carson-Newman's second-leading tackler in 2023, Hicks closed the year with 62 stops and five tackles for loss.  He had a career-best 11 tackles against Lenoir-Rhyne and finished five games with at least seven tackles.  

Ben Dukes (Soccer): Earned his first career honor from the SAC, by being named to the all-conference third team. Dukes scored his three goals in a four-game stretch in late September. He scored game-winners against Emory & Henry and Newberry. Along with the goals, he also pitched in with two assists. He finished the year starting all 16 games he played in. Dukes was second on the team in shots with 37. 

Thomas De Graauw (Soccer): The graduate student transfer scored two goals and added four assists in his lone season along the banks of Mossy Creek. His best game was the 2-2 at Mars Hill on Sept 27, when he scored and assisted on both goals for C-N. His four assists this season were the most on the team.

Nick Daugherty (Men's Golf): The Roane State transfer kicked off his fall campaign with a 37th place finish at the Mizuno Intercollegiate, shooting a tournament low 72 in the final round of action. In his next appearance at the Cateechee fall invite, Daugherty finished tied for 56th with a consistent performance, finishing the tournament at 5-over. Daugherty finished tied for 23rd at the Hurricane Invitational, once again shooting a 72 in the final round
