Fall Frosty Awards Nominees: Male Newcomer of the Year

From now until Jan. 1, the Carson-Newman Athletic Communications Department will debut the Frosty Award nominees for the fall semester.  Here are the fall nominees for Female Freshman of the Year. Sunday, we'll unveil the nominees for Female Newcomer of the Year. 

The third annual Frosty Awards will take place in April and honor athletic excellence in Carson-Newman's athletic department. 

Male Newcomer of the Year

Xavier McFadden: Xavier McFadden earned first team All-SAC honors at safety.  He was second on the team in tackles with 65 stops, including a team-best 43 solo tackles. McFadden made at least eight stops in a game four times this season and went over 10 tackles on three occasions. McFadden made a career high 12 tackles in the Eagles' overtime win over Wingate.  The junior from Rock Hill, S.C. grabbed his only interception of the season in the Eagles' 48-45 heart-stopper over North Greenville.  He also had a forced fumble this year.

Tom Read's (London, England) first season at Mossy Creek ended with selection to two All-Southeast Region teams and inclusion to the SAC's first team All-Conference team. Read set a new school record with 16 assists and added eight goals during his first season in the Orange and Blue and named a first-team All-SAC member. The London-native registered all 16 of his assists in the team's last 14 games, which ranked third in the NCAA. Against Catawba on Oct. 10th, Read recorded the first three-assist game by a Carson-Newman player in 11 years; he repeated the feat against Queens (N.C.) in the SAC Tournament semifinals. He led the team with 62 shots and tied for second with the eight goals.  

Phalen Booker: Phalen Booker asserted himself as a fine pass rusher as a junior college transfer.  Booker was fifth in the league with 10.5 tackles for loss and second in the league with six sacks.  Booker turned in a pair of sacks in the Eagles' win over Wingate. He had a trio of games with multiple tackles for loss, beginning with a career high three against North Greenville. Booker also turned in two stops behind the line against Mars Hill and Wingate
