Eagles continue to produce top finishes and school record times

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Five individuals and two relay teams competed in the prelims Friday morning resulting in one 'A' finalist and two 'B' finalists to close out day three of Nationals. 

In the first event that the Eagles competed in, freshman Matthew George and senior Marcelo Figueiredo swam in the men's 500 Free. Figueiredo finished in 27th place at 4:33.16.

George finished with a time of 4:26.26 earning him 9th place, a spot in the 'B' final this evening and a new school record for the event. 

Next was the 100 backstroke where senior Seth Hughes worked his way into the 'A' final finishing in 8th place with a personal best time of 47.47.

CJ Jensen once again made it into the 'B' final of her event swimming a personal best time of 2:02.12 in the 200 Fly coming in 13th place just narrowly missing the school record time. George competed in the 200 Fly as well but just short on placing high enough for the finals. He came in 18th place with a time of 1:49.04.

Concluding the morning were the men's and women's 800 Free Relays where both teams of Eagles earned Honorable Mention All-Americans. Lisa Postma, Meredith Ginn, CJ Jensen, and Elly Culp swam for the women finishing in 8th place at 7:43.82. The men finished in 8thplace as well at 6:37.68 with the small squad of George, Jon Lancaster, Nikola Tadic, and Figueiredo. 

The finals will begin at 6 p.m. this evening.
